3 Simple Tips for Managing Allergens

Since 2014 European law has made clear that food businesses need to do more for consumers with food allergies. The law requires all food businesses from manufacturers to restaurants, caterers even care homes to identify if any of the 14 main allergens are contained or used in any of the their food.

The good thing is everyone has a responsibility and must do their bit,  from the food producer to the retail shop or take away.

Tip 1: Know your food Ingredients

If you produce a food product obviously you will need to know what ingredients are allergenic and put that information on the product label to notify anyone who uses that product. You must READ the label.  Anyone producing food must list any of the 14 allergens on the label.

Tip 2: Make an allergen List

If you then use that product to make e.g. a curry at a restaurant you will need to read the label and handle, store and use that product carefully.  You must PRODUCE a list detailing which meals e.g. a curry contains a certain allergen

Tip 3: Communicate with your staff and Customers

Train staff to be aware of the allergen list and to SPEAK to customers. This will help customers to be aware of allergens and to know which foods to avoid. If you wnat to know more about how you can further assist your customers talk to us. We’re quite friendly..
